Dream Vaca

Today's Topic:

Tell us about your dream vacation!

Where would you go? Have you been there before? Who would go with you? What about it draws you in?

Alright I gotta do two:

I'd go back to Alaska in a heartbeat. Honestly I'd live in AK during the summer and come back here, Arkasas in the winter if I was a gabillionaire. There is something so majestic about Alaska and I'm certain I left a piece of my heart there. We went to AK in June 2010 on a cruise of the inner passage. Which was great but if I could do it differetly I'd skip the touristy cruise stuff and camp and hike as much as possible. Oh and FISH FISH FISH!!! Of course I'd go with whoever wanted to go but I'd love it if James and our son would be there too. :)

A place I've never been- New Zealand.
James has always wanted to go and I'm right there with him. There's something so mysterious about New Zealand and we're just dying to get out there and see what it's all about. Not to mention it's drop dead gorgeous out there as well!

It's OK Thursdays

It's OK!

... To come home every night and immediately take off your bra.

... & then change into PJ's and be completely worthless.

... To let your husband do all of the yard work.

... To be 26 and wear orthopedic sandals because the cheap ones kill your legs.

... To eat a whole can of Hominy for dinner.

... To laugh like hyena at Me, Myself & Irene.

... To not work on your potty mouth even though you're about to be a mom.

... To drink a Starbucks frap like every. single. day.

I'm jumping on the bandwagon with Brittany Little and about 200 other people for the Jenna's Journey 3rd annual commenting challenge. Yee-haw!
Today's Topic:

Tell us about your hobbies! What do you do in your free time? What are your favorite books, movies, music etc?
Oh Hobbies:
- I heart biking!
I can't exactly do that until about 6-8 weeks postpartum and even then my lady parts might be saying "oh HAIL NAW!" I don't know... I do really miss it though.

- Photography,
luckily that one will pick up severely once a little baby boy decides to join us. He's going to get so sick of me photographing him his first words might be "no photos please".

- Water,
fishing, swimming, boating, floating, you name it, I love it. Heck I even love the pressure washer.

- Hunting!
I didn't get to hunt much last year, morning sickness and 1st trimester exhaustion took precedent over Duck & Deer hunting with my hubby.  I have a shotgun that I just love, and I know it misses me too.

- HBO and Showtime series.
James and I don't have cable or satellite so we really don't watch that much TV. However we have netflix and can tether off of my phone. So we really, really enjoy dramatic series like Sopranos, True Blood, Californication, Weeds, The Big C, Dexter, Game of Thrones and some others. My only complaint is that they just take soooooo long in between seasons.

- Concerts
I love a good concert, heck even a mediocre concert is alright. James and I hit up the local venues often to watch mostly bluegrass bands. Usually we venture down to the Mulberry and go to Harvest and Wakarusa, this year we didn't do either because our little guy will be way too little to take down there with us! Maybe next year!

Maternity Shoot!

AH! Our maternity pictures are done! Miles took these for us three weeks ago, they turned out way better than I thought... I mean I knew they'd be good because of the photographer, but as I've said before he can only do so much with the subject that he has to shoot! A HUGE Thank You to Miles Witt Boyer for documenting this special time in our lives.I know we'll look back and be so glad we had these taken!

Hooray for 37 weeks!
Our little man is full term now and I suppose he can come out as soon as he pleases!
According to webmd, sprout app, etc etc his lungs are now fully developed and he'll spend these next few weeks making his way down the birthing canal, gaining weight/storing fat, practicing blinking, swallowing, preparing his lungs for breathing. Cool stuff!
I will definitely say I've reached semi-uncomfortable, not full blown uncomfortable or miserable by any means. I'm ready to get "me" back and start working on looking decent for Colby Beth's wedding!
Oh and had another weekly dr apt yesterday, the effacing and dilation has started!
So I guess those tightening sensations I've felt are BH's.
Go team female reproductive system, keep up the good work!

Here's "belly" pics through the whole process (obviously up until 37 weeks)

10/30/11 Little did we know...

18 weeks

somewhere in 2nd tri

2nd tri

32 weeks

37 weeks!

Also I have had an epiphany:
Talk about pregnancy, labor/delivery and child rearing is the equivalent to talking about the weather. We all think we're experts and we have the answers but the truth of the matter is not even the experts know for sure.

I can see now why Dr. Bailey got slightly frustrated with me when I asked him questions like I've been told I'm too small for my weeks or Is it OK that I'm still laying on my back at night?
No one knows (but God) when you'll go into labor*
No one knows if you are carrying a big baby until s/he's out on the scale, we can assume all day long. Even the cranial circumference measurements taken in a U/S can be off.
No one except for the pregnant person/OB knows if you've dropped. Did you know when you "drop" it's only a couple inches?
No one knows if your child will hit the milestones early, late or right on time.
Every pregnancy/delivery/baby/child/tween/teen/adult is different.
There will always be kids out there more advanced/taller/heavier/lighter and less advanced/taller/heavier/lighter than yours.
Same with your parenting, there will always be better and worse parents out there.
I can't stannnnnd the competitive and comparative -ness out there. And at first I will politely dismiss it, but you do not provoke a momma bear, eventually the teeth will come out.
We will do the best we can, that's all we can do.
Of course we welcome genuine advice and help from our family and friends. Always have, always will.

*unless of course you're being induced/planned c-section

Alright I'm stepping off my soapbox. I've just heard a lot of awful information/opinions lately.
I actually had one lady tell me to start jumping on a trampoline, and another tell me to stay out of the sun or I'll boil him alive.

Best Baby Book, Ever

Suzanne Weber's To What Miserable Wretches Have I Been Born is hands down the best baby book out there.
I heard about it on one of my favorite radio shows and downloaded it as soon as I could. You gotta go buy/download/borrow from a friend stat.

And then a special one for my friend Jessica Coffman who is going through the lovely time of weening the paci!

Sunday Social

Sunday Social

Well, I'm a day late on this Sunday Social. We spent the weekend in Harrison and loved every minute of it!
I still thought this would be a fun, and challenging thing to fill out about myself.
I'm going in this full dork mode, I won't give you any answers to make you think I'm cool, because I'm really, really not.
My husband says my music taste is awful... but since this pregnancy has been "full force" Truman and I listen to a lot of mommy's nostalgic music and really that's what my favorites are.

What is your all-time favorite song?
I'm going to have to say, Power of Love by Celine Dion. Anything Celine reminds me of my grandma, she was a huge fan!
Plus Celine Dion is the greatest singer in the world, just ask her!

What is your favorite singer/band?
I really, really think that my favorite singer/band is Iron & Wine. They're constantly my go-to chill out music, I'm hoping Truman likes them too because they're going to be playing a lot in his room.

What is your theme song/song that best describes your life?
Alright I actually had to answer this last because I couldn't think of anything... Man in the Mirror, Michael Jackson.
"If you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change."
What songs put you in a good mood?
Forget you by Cee Lo Green is a favorite of mine. I never heard it until our wedding reception and I loved watching people sing and dance to it. Every time I hear this song it takes me back to that day!
What is your favorite roadtrip music?
Because my favorite person to road trip with is James, we listen to what James wants to listen to. Which is usually Keller Williams, OCMS, and a little bit of Led Zeppelin. James is a HUGE Zeppelin (&the doors) fan. He knows the words to all the songs that come up and everything. Every time I hear Zeppelin I can't help but think of his entirely too tight pants that he wore in concerts :-X Leave something to the imagination man!

What song are you embarrassed to admit you love?
Let's see, I guess it'd have to be my love for some old-school rap. I really enjoy putting this on when I'm about three sheets to the wind... It's not the music that's embarrassing, it's the extremely white girl singing every word to it like a total dipstick.

Reality Check?

Happy 100th post to our blog... I thought I'd make our 100th post about our maternity pictures buuuuttttt I'm still waiting on them. So, I'll make the post about Truman's 36 week apt and reality settling in my dense brain.

36 week apt... aka "let the weekly checks begin"

Had my first cervical check yesterday, I was expecting it to be a lot more invasive than it actually was. Either that or I'm livestock and nothing really phases me. This sounds gross, but no dilation, however my cervix is soft. So I guess that's a good thing.  I've been experiencing BH's every once in awhile since T3 began but now they're everyday a few times a day. Nothing painful, just weird. No true contractions (tightening of the entire uterus) either. Which is a good thing because little man needs to bake a bit longer in my opinion. Plus I've got a few more things on my Before Truman list I'd like to mark off.
Things I can mark off my list:
I had a La Huerta night with some of my buddies mmmmm
My brother treated me to Copeland's yesterday, om nom nom fatty likeie!
James and I are having Chinese/Thai tonight. Truman is a huge fan of Pad Thai.
Pretty much my life now revolves around food, what I ate, what I'm eating and what I'm going to eat.
Oh yeah and being a parent for the rest of my life, and how shit's getting real.

Shit's getting real...
So I mentioned in my last post that my anxiety is subsiding, and at that moment it was... but it's back. Hello again freak out!
This pregnancy in reality has been easy, a walk in the park, a breeze... like I said, I'm livestock I'm pretty sure my body is a baby making/popping out factory. Now what about PARENTING!?!?! I'm not scared of going into labor, the pain, the *ick*, the sweating, pushing, bloated beyond all reason thanks to the IV but I am scared of being a eff up parent.
Right now, and for the past ~26 years I've been able to play with peoples babies and HAND THEM BACK. Now, people will be handing this one back to me. "Here he's stinky you fix. Oh he's crying, you fix. You're the milk, you fix." Yikes, responsibility! I know we're going to love the crap out of him, and I simply cannot wait for him to "be here", but I am nervous, there's no point in hiding it. I keep telling myself all you can do is take one moment at a time and handle it to the best of my ability and thank sweet Jesus, James is much smarter than I am and can guide me in the right direction.

Find your happy place

This weekend we started child birthing classes provided by the willow creek women's hospital.
I was very apprehensive of taking these two "intense" day classes, but now that we're half the way through I'm glad we signed up!

One of my favorite things we've talked about is breathing techniques (think hee-hee-hoo) assessing yourself (like meditation), and finding your happy place. I don't know if I'll remember to use any of these during the labor, I'm hoping James will help me remember to use them...
Anyways, regardless if we utilize them I was glad to have a refresher on stress reducing techniques and will definitely need them when the going gets rough.
Anyway she had us do a "happy place" exercise, and we all sat in silence as she "took us there" and we envisioned our happy places what we saw, felt, smelled, tasted and heard. It made me really happy and relaxed! I asked James yesterday what his happy place was and he said it was Gothic, CO and I told him that mine was the dock, Diamond City, AR :) ah it's the little things! When I went on my "virtual tour" of the dock I felt sunshine, smelt fresh air, heard the kids playing and water splashing, saw the water and all the love, insta-happy!

Where is your happy place? What makes it so special?

Here's ours :)

2nd runner up for my happy place, Haines AK
James' happy place, Gothic CO
Another AK pic

My happy place, the dock, Diamond City AR

I love it here!

By the way: 30 days until Truman's due date! We can't wait to meet the little nugget! My reservations and anxiety are subsiding and I'm getting full blown excited!!

Truman's Shower!

Truman's shower was this past Saturday, at the home of the fabulous Sharon Lewis. She is amazing folks, she and my other darling hostesses went above and beyond and put together a wonderful shower for our little guy. We had a lot of friends and family come out and spend their Saturday afternoon with me and I truly appreciate them taking the time out of their lives for James, Truman and I. We're so blessed to have so many wonderful people in our lives.
Somebody pinch me!

Mommies Giraffe obsessed cake!

Onesie sugar cookies!

The theme was pickles and ice-cream. How cute is that!?

My  friend Brittany made this sign! I'm taking it to Hob Lob soon and having it turned into a door hanger for little mans room!

My dear friend Ashley made these letters! As soon as I get the courage and another set of able eyes, they're going up in Truman's nursery!

Here's the link to ALL the pictures: Snapfish Link!

Well I believe it's official, the nesting bug has hit (harder than before). I was up at 4:30 Sunday with a sore throat/cough and decided at 6:00 AM to just get the heck up and go through my stuff... After all it's like I had a full-fledged family Christmas and I got to take all the goodies home with me. I went through everything and put it all away! The whole "nesting bug" feels like my mind is in overdrive but my body is running in slow-motion. Or maybe it feels that way because of the head cold, anyway, it's wild.

40 Days until D-Day!

Yes, I'm doing 10 day countdowns. :)
So let's see... 34 weeks, fat and sassy.

The highlight of this week
Was doing our maternity pics with the legendary Miles Witt Boyer. James and I met up with him on Tuesday and did a lil mat photo sesh. It was good, I hope he got a few decent pics of me. :-X
Perk- I gave my newly found boob/chest/shoulder cleavage, double chin, and arm/arm pit fat a name: Bertha. "Miles let me know if Bertha is coming out!" "She's in your arm! She's in your chin!"
... that beach is everywhere.
I say all this with love please don't think I hate myself. :)

I got Tru another NB photoshoot prop for the *near* future. I'm pretty pumped up about it (thank you Jesus for etsy). I'd share it with you... But I think it'd be so much more fun for you to see it on my child rather than rando baby on esty.
No offense rando baby, you so sold it to me though.

The BT List
Technically I haven't gotten to mark off anything on the BT list, the burlesque show turned out to be kinda... Ick. So we went out to the Wine Cellar and on to Farrell's on Dickson. Note: all of them have mighty tasty water and are a non-smoking establishment. :)
We've stayed very busy considering! James has been to the lake every weekend and my weekends have been non-stop as well.
Life as we know it is about to change!

Had my first biweekly check up Tuesday, I've only gained a lb since the last visit putting me at 20 lbs total gained. I'm still pretty happy with this even though I only wanted to gain 20 throughout the entire 40 weeks. So now I'm shooting for 25 or less.
I had a pretty major stomach bug a couple weeks ago (beware of the bug!!) and I think that contributed to my lack of gaining. Anyway, I'll take it.
More importantly- Tru is doing well, measuring fine, getting harder in the belly area and still a lil tender. In two more weeks we'll start weekly checks then after all that he's gotta get out of his womb! At our 30 week U/S his head was right at my cervix and my bladder and I suspect he's still there because the bladder sure takes a beating. Thanks for taking one for the team friend!

Game of Thrones
Anyone watch GOT? James and I really like it. We watched the season finale this week and immediately after it was over James asked "so when does it come on again?" heh. Sadly it'll be awhile eh? Showtime/HBO sure likes to torture us!!
*perk- Trublood is back this Sunday!!!

I won't spoil anything for you all but let me just say that White Walker "monkey" on the GOT finale scared the crap out of me!!

Did you know LLLI has a ZMag?! It's wonderful! It really gave me a lot to think about and be thankful for.
I have a little "me project" and my plan is to stock up on quick foods for the 1st 6-8 weeks like...
Hearty muffin mix
Eggs (boil/fry)
Smoothie material
Raw Veggies
Rice Milk
Sandwich/roll up food
Crock pot meals
And snacks like- Hummus, dip, nuts, fruit, good snack bars, and maybe some cheese and yogurt.

Yeah I pretty much just posted my grocery list :)

Here's a link to the LLLI ZMag: clickie!
