Parenting lesson #63

Everyday is different.
No day will be the exact same.
For instance I did not want to nap yesterday. And if I was going to nap you had to hold me or cuddle with me.
Today however you can go about your business, I've got napping to do.

Love,
Truman
(9 weeks old)

A little note from Momma-

Happy Two Months Old!
We weighed him on our 1950's analog scale and according to it he weighs 10 lb 7 oz and is 24.5" long!
This EBF baby is gaining 7.3 oz a week since 5 weeks old! Before that he was only gaining 4.8! I'm one happy momma!!

Milestones-
Smiling
Cooing/Talking
Following objects
Recognizing familiar faces & voices
Rolled from tummy to back
Managing gas pains slightly better.
Wearing 0-3 and some 3 mo stuff!

Holy Milkdown!!!

Today is awful in the world of Truman Paul.

Where do I even begin?

Ugh.

For by birthday I asked for Cheesecake.
Dip. Shit. Mistake.

So Wednesday night we had our cake and ate it too.... Thursday was full of belly hurting cries but I assumed the Prevacid for his GERD still hadn't kicked in. So Thursday night I had another piece of cheesecake.
FRIDAY- at least 5 inconsolable outbursts accompanied with -- arching back-- shrieks of pain -- hard as a rock belly -- refusal to eat -- wheezing breath -- coughing cries -- splotchy scalp -- crazy hands all over face.
One that lasted an hour plus. I kid you not.
That's when it hit me also in the middle of praying to God to PLEASE take this horrific pain away from him that it was that motherloving cheesecake.

So Saturday I was extremely mindful and avoided dairy all day.
However!
My folks invited us over for dinner where mom made her enchilada's with cream of mushroom sauce.
I hesitated even eating them but what do you do? "these are nice and all, can I please have a PB&J?"
So I scraped off as much as I could and ate.
TODAY (aka Sunday, Funday)
Funday my ass.
He's either been asleep or crying since 8:30 it's 12:40 now...

We've tried everything!
Shooshing
Swooshing/Bouning/Marching
Every angle you can imagine
And nursing at all of these angles too.
Pumping legs
Rubbing tummy (which btw bad idea)
Laying on side
Laying on belly

We got about 3 minutes of smiles thanks to James "magic wedge" aka his legs propped up on the coffee table + shooshing +bicycle legs

This SUCKS!

Cows milk protein I HATES YOU!!

I kept thinking, "It's not cows milk allergy because he doesn't vomit nor does he have bloody stools" until I found this.

So I'm pretty pissed.
I'm pissed at me 1st off for not eliminating dairy right off the bat
(like I mentioned doing before he was born)
I'm pissed at me for not eliminating it as soon as he started having these GERD symptoms.
I'm pissed at how hard this is going to be.
I'm pissed at the dependency I have on dairy.

But
I can look at this as a win -MF'in- win
Win- surely to goodness cutting out dairy will mean a slightly less pudgy April.
Win- this will make our baby boy happy.
Win- this elimination has got to be a healthy change for me. Right?

Grrr!
Clearly you can tell I have wrote this post in the heat of the moment.

Going to lay down now!

Liebster Award

I've just been awarded the Liebster Blog Award! Liebster is German for "favorite" and Jen Fort chose me as one of her favorites!

Here's the Rules:

1. List 11 things about yourself..
2. Answer the 11 questions that the tagger has set for you
3. Choose 11 bloggers
4. Create a set of 11 new questions for the 11 people you tag.
5. Absolutely no tag backs
6. The bloggers have to have fewer than 200 followers.
7. Go inform them that you nominated them for the award

11 things about mehself:

1. I'm still scared shitless about being a parent.

2. Classic case of a Jack of All Trades, Master of None. --- I love doing new things and getting all set up ie-
buying a camera wanting to photograph everything- let the camera collect dust. (however Im wearing out my iPhone camera)
Buy a cycle, want to cycle all the time- let the tires go flat from lack of use (I do have a good excuse with the whole pregnancy/new baby thing)

3. I believe that there's something in a name. For instance I've never met a Jennifer, Jessica or Ashley (and all the names variations) that I didn't like.
And in light of recent realizations- Brittany's! Hehe

4. I am pretty sure you could make a drinking game out of my blog.
- take a shot for every time she puts something in quotation marks or parentheses.
- take a shot for every time she mentions breast feeding
- take a shot for every time she gives Truman a nickname
Etc. etc.

5. I'm a closet nerd. James makes fun of me all the time. Took him awhile to realize he was dating a dork/nerd/geek whatever.

6. I almost always have a song stuck in my head on repeat. It gets pretty annoying. Today's song was "Bubba Shot the Jukebox" where the H do these things come from?

7. I'm left handed- to a fault. My poor right hand can click a mouse and that's about it!

8. I'm still wedding obsessed. I can't help it I looooove planning stuff like that!

9. I wear my hair in a pony tail every. single. day. I don't even know why I bother having hair. I couldn't care less about fixing it. Lord knows one day this "youthful athletic look" is gonna be too young for me and I gotta buck up and fix my hair like a big kid.

10. I LOVE to laugh and laugh loud! My father and I are knee slappers and hand clappers too.
Came by it honestly.

11. I put a lot of pressure on myself to meet the expectation I think others have set for me. I'm getting better at this, guess that comes with age and having two (three if you count hank) people who depend on me to be there for them first.

Jen Forts Questions:

If you were to have another baby, what would you name him/her?
- if we had another boy I really like Archer. James is named after his ggrandpa- Archie James and I think it's a modern twist on Archie.

What did you want to be when you grow up?
- It seriously changed from week to week. - scientist, astronaut, librarian just to name a few.

Favorite vacation spot?
- Give me mountains and/or water and I'm a happy happy girl. Put them together like say, Alaska and I could stay forever!

Favorite drink (alcoholic or non)?
- Beer, the darker the better.

One thing you admire about your spouse?
- His patience!!! I thank God for it every day!

Who is your role model?
- I have several but here's what they all have in common- they are all very kind hearted, they are positive, they don't speak badly of anyone & they are elegant ladies.

What celeb would you hang with for a day?
- Mayim Bialik and I would drive her bonkers with parenting questions.

Favorite beauty product?
- Gosh I don't know. I really like my chicken poop chap stick.

Least favorite thing about your job?
- Heh. Um... Sorry to say but my job rocks. Especially since Tman gets to go with me!

What's your signature meal?
- I'm a breakfast gal- oatmeal and ham & egg sandwich!

Inspired by the rain today...what's your idea of the best lazy, rainy, day?
- Today was such a great day, best rainy day I've had in awhile. We had the day off so Tru & I slept until 11:00 and we pretty much nursed and watched movies all day. No expectations just some quiet togetherness.
Perk- James came home early too!

My Questions to you:

1. Tell me something quirky about you?

2. What would be your ideal concert? (no limits to if they're around or not anymore)

3. If you could live anywhere for a year where would you live and what makes that place so special?

4. What's your guilty pleasure?

5. If you HAD to be a doctor, what type of doctor would you be and why?

6. If you could be a star in any movie, what movie and who would you be?

7. What's your favorite restaurant & what would you recommend there?

8. What's your favorite holiday and why?

WILW

First and foremost I love that our baby boy is 7 weeks old today!!
I love that he smiles and talks to us a little more every day.
I love that he's finally starting to feel better.
I love that he's taking more and more little naps now that his reflux isn't waking him up as much.
I love that he's loving his swing! And that he's found himself in the mirror mobile!
I'm loving block nursing, since he wants to nurse almost constantly I'm offering one side every 2-hours and I believe that this has cut down on our gas pain issue. I also feel like he's actually getting a meal instead of several side salads that don't keep him satisfied for long.
I also love that he has the same amount of diapers everyday and I can actually feel a difference in his weight!

I'm loving Mad Men!
I've watched all the way through season four and I'm ready for more!
I actually had a dream last week I did a blog post on "everything I know about 1960's I learned from Mad Men"
All I know really is that everyone seems so elegant and well spoken, however the show makes me want to cough from all the cigarette smoke!
Also * possible spoiler * I hate that the bearded guy & Sal aren't on there anymore. :-/

I'm loving that a good friend of mine started a blog, she makes me laugh daily through emails, now I get to read her hilarious banter through blog too!

While on the subject- Im glad Jenny Samples has picked hers back up too!!
It's fun to see pics of her darling son and watch him grow!

Lastly:
I'm loving that my hubba hubba husband has a new job!!
He now works for Pure Fishing as a sales analyst!

They sell things like:

To me this is the equivalent of a shoe obsessed lady working for Jimmy Choo.

Lucky guy!

End o post funnies:

Oh oh oh!!
I love these piggies!

Six Weeks!

We're six weeks old this week!
So far this has been a fantastic week. He's talking to us, cooing and we're getting social smiles!
We've been on a few road trips to town with daddy while he's off this week and have managed just fine!

Funny of the week:
In the mornings I make a pillow throne (like in the pix above) and let little man sit up and work some toots out. Well this particular morning daddy was sitting with him commenting on the tremendous amount of tooting going on then James says "uh-oh, blowout."
Yup, Truman sharted.
Needless to say our bed had clean sheets on it that night.

Have you ever tried to breast feed a boomerang?

Truman's gas is still pretty painful on him. He makes fists, turns red, strains, cries, grunts, cries while nursing, and arches his back. It seems so terrible for him. I've been doing a bit of research on all of this and websites say:
- wear/hold your baby (upright)
- place in prone position (on belly)
- rest at 30 degree angle
- nurse head above tummy
- bicycle legs
- massage tummy
- gas drops, gripe water, probiotics
- magic baby hold
- burp baby often
- watch diet for trouble foods (dairy, wheat etc.)

And so on.

I wish I could do something to stop it before it becomes a problem.
I do know we have tried all of those things mentioned above and not one of them is our "go-to" move.
We do most of the above mentioned but the only way to calm him down is to nurse.
Anyone have an anti-gas technique they'd like to share?
Anyone know when this gets better?

My Life Planner

Oh I love it!!
I bought a few of these last year for family & friends, and now I have my own!!

Lastly the storm!
We haven't had a storm like this in awhile! It actually made me nervous.
maybe it's because I have a bit more responsibility now...
The storm moved our metal patio furniture off the slab and broke the umbrella in half. :-/

One-eighty.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you:

A baby.

And not just any baby...
We're talking about a
Tear free
1-2 hour eating
Gut-wrenching cries free
Happy
Alert
Yet sleeps more than ever before
Content
1/2 as gassy

Baby boy
Who has Acid Reflux or "Silent GERD"
And now we know so we're on the right track.

Now we're gonna knock this out!

Today was the best day our little one has had so far.
We went to the store & everyone got to see him. He was happy the entire time & all the way home.
We went to my brothers house and he slept the entire time!
We ventured to Bentonville where he slept through dinner and JcPenney's.
I woke him up to nurse and we checked out Cabelas where he was happy the hour we were in there (huge fan of the lights) and slept the ride home!
I'm the happiest mom alive!
I got to take a bath and shave my legs
Aaaaand
When I got out Truman wasn't screaming!
Amazing!!!

Between his Zantac & my domperdion we are a happy family. Even daddy is all smiles too!

I took Truman to the dr Wednesday when the lactation consultant I talk to said it sounds like he has reflux. When I looked it up on kellymom.com the realization hit me much like this:

YES! I have seen the light!!!

Here all along I thought he was just starving and I wasn't giving him enough. The Dr. said that a baby will nurse for comfort shortly after feeding as breast milk is a natural antacid.

The lactation consultant said we should see a bump in his ounces gained per week now that:
1- he's feeling better
2- he's crying less
3- my meds kick in

So...
I just wanna say.

Hell Yeah!! Happy Baby!!
No longer going insane momma!!!
